April News and Updates

Parents and Guardians,

Ned's Mindset Mission - Students and staff participated in this assembly at the end of March. It was an inspirational presentation infused with magic and yo-yo tricks to encourage a growth mindset with NED's message- Never give up, Encourage others and Do your best. This assembly was provided at no cost to our school due to yo-yo sales from previous schools. With sales completed at our school, (over $1400 worth), we are also able to pay it forward to another school to participate!

Wildly Important Goal: Increase school wide reading comprehension- We accomplished our goal to have each grade level increase reading comprehension by at least 1 month of growth during the month of March. Today we celebrated how we truly are able to "learn, play and be well together". Students and staff enjoyed a pizza lunch and each class particpated in dodgeball games versus the staff.

Archery Program- During the month of April and May, our second archery program of the school year will be underway. There is an application process for this program whereby interested students complete various questions to express their interest and level of commitment to safety during participation. Successful applicants are selected by the Archery Committee based on overall school leadership, positive contributions to the school environment and responses to questions within the application. Although a grade 6 program, this round was also made available to interested grade 5 students.

Music Monday- The assembly to celebrate Music Monday 2023 will be on May 1 at 2:00 at HAS.  All ISS and HAS students and staff will come together to celebrate music.  The program will include performances from ISS, HAS as well as from some community orchestra members.Parents are more than welcome to attend. Please watch for the Acknowledgment of Risk form to come home during the week of April 17-21.

Measurable Results Assessment (MRA) - This school improvement survey will be open to parents, students and staff to complete between April 18 and May 2. The survey link will be emailed to parents and posted on our school website and social media pages. This survey provides data to our school within 3 categories- Leadership, Culture and Academics. Results from this survey will be used to inform and determine our school priorities and plans for the 2023-2024 school year. We also use this survey data to celebrate the things our school is doing well and to evaluate areas for continued improvement and growth. The results of this survey will be shared with students, staff and parents in late May.

Tri-School Council Meeting- Our next meeting is planned for April 25th, 6:15pm at Isabelle Sellon School. Agenda items will include school budgets for 2023-2024, projected student enrollment and projected staffing. Updates will also be shared regarding Place Based Learning and Leader in Me.

Enjoy a wonderful Easter holiday break. Classes resume on April 17th.
